The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has granted Pakistan Cricket Board’s request for an executive board meeting to be held in Bahrain on February 4, 2019, to discuss the Asia Cup and India’s participation.
Najam Sethi, chairman of the PCB, told media in Lahore Monday that he had convinced the ACC members to hold the meeting during his recent trip to Dubai.
He said, “It’s a significant development that the ACC board will meet in Bahrain on February 4th and all matters relating the Asia Cup will then be discussed.”
“There will be a ICC meeting also in March. I don’t want the public to know what negotiations I had in Dubai with ACC members or what I plan do, argue or discuss at these meetings. Yes, India and Pakistan cricket relations matter.”
Last year, the PCB was shocked when Jay Shah, the president of the ACC, stated that the Indian team would not travel from India to the Asia Cup. The event would instead be held elsewhere like it had in 2018.
Ramiz Raja, the PCB’s leader at the time, threatened to send its team to India if India did not come to Pakistan.
Ramiz threatened later that Pakistan might also withdraw from the Asia Cup.
Sethi acknowledged that there needs to be clarity in cricket matters between India & Pakistan so that ACC events and ICC events do not get affected.
“Hosting this year’s Asia Cup is important. India sending its team to India is a major problem because it will have repercussions on 2025’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.”
