6 Million Counterfeit Items Eliminated from Amazon’s Supply Chains

According to a report released on Tuesday, Amazon has successfully eliminated six million counterfeit items from its global supply chain in 2022. The e-commerce giant has employed a strategic combination of advanced technology and expert personnel to prevent bad actors from creating new selling accounts and publishing counterfeit products for sale. In 2022, Amazon prevented over 800,000 attempts to create such accounts, which is a significant reduction from 2.5 million attempts in 2021 and six million attempts in 2020.

The company’s efforts to eliminate counterfeit items go beyond its marketplaces and stores, as it identifies, seizes, and disposes of such products to prevent them from reaching customers and being resold elsewhere in the global supply chain. The report also revealed that Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit has sued or referred over 1,300 criminals for investigation in the US, UK, EU, and China in 2022.

Counterfeit items not only pose a risk to the customers who unknowingly purchase them, but they also harm the brands whose intellectual property is being infringed upon. By taking a proactive approach to eliminate counterfeit items, Amazon is protecting both its customers and the legitimate sellers on its platform. The company’s continued efforts to combat counterfeits demonstrate its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its supply chain and creating a trustworthy shopping experience for its customers.
