Filmmaker Sudipto Sen’s latest creation, “The Kerala Story,” starring the talented Adah Sharma, has achieved a remarkable milestone in just nine days. The film has become the fourth Hindi movie in 2023 to enter the coveted Rs 100-crore club, joining the ranks of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar,” and Salman Khan’s “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.”
Despite releasing alongside the highly anticipated Marvel Studios blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” on May 5, “The Kerala Story” managed to surpass expectations and leave its competitors in the dust. The film’s first week saw an impressive collection of Rs 81.07 crore nett, while “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” trailed behind with Rs 37.31 crore nett during the same period.
Building on its initial success, “The Kerala Story” commenced its second week on a positive note. Friday’s collection reached Rs 12.23 crore nett, followed by a substantial weekend surge of Rs 43.25 crore nett. As a result, the film’s total collection soared to an impressive Rs 136 crore nett.
In addition to overshadowing Hollywood’s big release, “The Kerala Story” also outshone other Hindi films at the box office during the same week. Vidyut Jammwal’s gripping spy thriller, “IB 71,” directed by Sankalp Reddy, secured a modest opening day collection of Rs 1.67 crore nett on Friday. Over the weekend, it added an extra Rs 7.50 crore nett to its earnings. Meanwhile, V. V. Vinayak’s action-packed venture, “Chatrapathi,” headlined by Sai Srinivas, amassed Rs 2 crore nett during the given period.
“The Kerala Story” has emerged as a formidable force in the industry, captivating audiences and raking in impressive numbers. Its rapid ascent to the Rs 100-crore club highlights its widespread appeal and the exceptional talent of both Sudipto Sen and Adah Sharma. As the film continues to dominate the box office, it has firmly established itself as a true success story in the Hindi film industry of 2023.
